Dr. Steven J. Novotny

Since 2020 Dr. Novotny has served as the Director of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for Autonodyne, LLC. His primary efforts focus on computer vison incorporating deep learning models for image recognition, classification, and tracking; deep reinforcement learning for hierarchical multiagent collaboration; and the application of transformer networks for multivariate time series forecasting and multiagent reinforcement learning. His primary research goal is to merge these areas and develop a multilevel decision-making construct for collaborative autonomous agents using time-sequenced observations.

He earned a bachelor degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Central Florida in 1992. He later earned master degrees in Engineering Physics, Astronomy, and Computer Science from the Air Force Institute of Technology, University of Florida and Georgia Tech respectively. In 2004, he earned a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Florida.

Dr. Novotny has served in the Army and Air Force from which he retired in 2019. He worked in space launch acquisition, space launch operations, and R&D in space situational awareness. He also spent 10+ years teaching physics, astronomy/astrophysics, and computational physics at the US Air Force Academy where he was awarded the Academy’s highest awards for teaching. In addition, he directed the Academy’s Center for Physics Education for 3+ years.
